Event Waiver, Release of Liability and Indemnity Agreement
Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series – Participant Waiver
About the Events and this Waiver
The Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series consists of mass-participation physical and mindfulness events, including the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Run & Walk and the Greater Manchester Meditation (each an "Event"). This Waiver is non-date-specific. It legally applies to the next two Events in the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series, starting from the date of your signature or online registration submission.
Please note: We recognise that you may be registering for just one Event, or for both. This single waiver applies to whichever Event(s) you actually participate in. Signing this waiver does not obligate you to attend both, but ensures you are legally covered for the specific Event(s) you choose to join.
The Events are organised by City Wellbeing Series Ltd. (the "Promoter"). By registering for, accessing, or taking part in your chosen Event(s), you agree to the terms of this Participant Waiver.
Your Health, Fitness, and Preparation
You confirm that you are physically and mentally fit to take part in your chosen Event(s) and have no medical condition that would make your participation unsafe. You are solely responsible for monitoring your own physical and mental state before, during, and after the Event(s).
You must stop participating immediately if you feel unwell, experience pain, or feel unable to continue safely. If you are in any doubt about your health or fitness, you must seek professional medical advice before participating.
Practice and Preparatory Materials
The Promoter may provide practice meditations, training plans, or preparatory exercises in advance of the Event(s).
You acknowledge and agree that you follow these preparatory materials entirely at your own risk. You are responsible for ensuring you practice in a safe, stable, and appropriate environment.
Virtual and Remote Participation (Mindfulness and Meditation)
For virtual, remote, or home-based elements of the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series (including the Greater Manchester Meditation), you acknowledge that you will be participating without direct, in-person supervision from the Promoter or Event staff.
Safe Environment: You are solely responsible for ensuring that your physical surroundings are safe, free from hazards, and suitable for meditation or light movement. The Promoter accepts no liability for injuries, slips, trips, or falls occurring in your own home, workplace, or other remote location.
Mental Wellbeing: Meditation and mindfulness practices can occasionally bring up strong emotions or mental discomfort. If you experience distress, you agree to cease the practice immediately and, if necessary, seek professional medical or psychological support.
Your Responsibilities
During In-Person Events For in-person elements (such as the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Run & Walk), you agree to follow all Event rules, route instructions, safety briefings, and directions given by the Promoter, Event staff, and volunteers.
You will act safely and respectfully towards other participants, staff, volunteers, and members of the public. You will not participate if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if your participation could endanger yourself or others.
Assumption of Risk
You understand that taking part in physical and wellbeing activities, whether in-person or virtually, carries inherent risks, including the risk of physical injury, illness, mental distress, or, in very rare cases, death.
By participating, you voluntarily accept these risks and take full responsibility for your own actions, health, and any equipment or personal belongings you bring to or use during the Event(s).
Limitation of Liability
Nothing in this Waiver limits or excludes the Promoter's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by UK law. Subject to the above, the Promoter, its directors, employees, and partners (including Manchester City Council) shall not be liable to you in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise for: Any personal injury, illness, mental distress, loss, or damage that is not directly caused by the Promoter's negligence; Any loss of or damage to your personal property; or Any indirect, special, or consequential loss (including but not limited to loss of income, travel, or accommodation costs).
Medical Treatment (In-Person Events)
You consent to medical treatment being administered to you if deemed necessary by authorised medical personnel during or shortly after an in-person Event. You agree that your medical and personal information may be shared with medical staff and emergency services if required for your care.
Photography, Filming, and Media
The Event(s) may be photographed, filmed, or broadcast. You may appear in photographs, video recordings, or broadcasts used to promote the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series and related activities across websites, social media, or printed materials. If you do not wish to be included in promotional images at in-person events, please notify the Event staff on the day.
Data Protection
Your personal information will be processed in accordance with UK Data Protection Legislation to register you, manage your participation, ensure safety, and, where permitted, share information about additional wellbeing advice topics and future events.
Age Limit and Eligibility
The Events are strictly for participants aged 16 and over. Individuals under the age of 16 are not permitted to participate in any Event. By registering or participating, you confirm that you will be at least 16 years of age on the day of the Event.
General Legal Terms
Severability: If any provision of this Waiver is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court, that provision shall be severed, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction: This Waiver is governed by and construed in accordance with English Law, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.
Third-Party Rights: A person who is not a party to this Waiver has no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any term of this Waiver, except that Manchester City Council may rely on and directly enforce the protections, indemnities, and limitations of liability set out herein.

By submitting your registration, checking the agreement box, or participating in any Event or preparatory practice, you confirm that you have read, understood, and voluntarily agree to this Participant Waiver.
