Why the focus on wellbeing at work?

Up to 50% of our working week is 'at work' / 'with colleagues'.. And yet, "1 in 2 people say the feel lonely at work".

84% of workers say workplace friendships are vital for their wellbeing.
Every £1 invested in employee wellbeing returns £5 in performance and retention.

Supporting the prevention of wellbeing issues is a demonstration of care and concern. It's also good business.

Why city focused mass events? Nick's Finish Line Theory

"I've seen over a million people cross finish lines at events I've helped organise over 20 years. Literal finish lines.
However, life is a series of finish lines. Rarely are they fully acknowledged or celebrated. We move on too quickly. Yet, each is a moment, an achievement. Each is a learning opportunity. Each is a moment to share an cherish."

Why finish lines matter

In fast-paced workplaces, achievements often go unacknowledged. GM Wellbeing Series creates moments where teams cross finish lines together; transforming shared experiences into stronger bonds. It's a simple, science-backed way to boost engagement, wellbeing, and lasting organisational performance.

Finish lines help release endophins (happy hormones).  Pausing to reflect on your various milestones helps reduce cortisol and stress.  The fast paced world of 'next, next, next' means we are constantly bubbling and simmering which can lead to burnout.  Finish lines (however small) and pausing to acknowledge them helps train the brain to flow with the pressures and rewards you might feel at work.

A Shared Finish Line

Helps re-energise Teams
Crossing a finish line together releases dopamine and endorphins, the brain's natural reward signals, helping staff feel motivated, energised, and ready for the next challenge.

Strengthens Connection
Shared achievement triggers oxytocin, deepening trust and belonging. Completing something together creates stronger bonds and more cohesive teams.

Delivers Organisational Impact
Recognising milestones improves engagement, resilience, and loyalty. Finish lines turn effort into energy and shared progress into measurable performance.

Why Greater Manchester?

Nick Rusling, CEO and Founder of the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series has organised mass participation events - marathons, triathlons, cycling events all over the world (shutting down cities from Abu Dhabi to Melbourne, Stockholm to Barcelona, London to Leeds.

He used to own and deliver the Manchester Marathon and Manchester Half Marathon.

“Greater Manchester is the best place I've ever delivered events in. I fell in love with the place and the people. Their spirit, collaboration, brave leadership, world class approach. From my experience, Greater Manchester embraces the opportunity to bring events to life for the good citizens of GM, and for others to join in and enjoy - better than anywhere. So... when considering where to launch this world first Wellbeing Series; there was only one place for me.”
